Air India Flight Diverted to Mumbai Due to Disruptive Passenger

An Air India flight traveling from Kozhikode to Bahrain made an emergency landing in Mumbai after a passenger caused a major disturbance on board. The incident, which took place on June 1, involved a 25-year-old passenger named Abdul Nadukkandiyil from Kerala, who attempted to open the aircraft door and physically assaulted other passengers.

Incident Details and Police Report

According to the police report, Air India flight IX-473 took off from Kozhikode at 10:10 am. Abdul, seated at 15T, moved to the rear of the plane around noon and assaulted crew members while trying to open the door. Despite the crew’s attempts to calm him down and bring him back to his seat, he continued to threaten passengers and the safety of the flight. Given his proximity to the emergency exit, the crew relocated Abdul, but his disruptive behavior persisted, leading the pilot to divert the flight to Mumbai.

Emergency Landing and Security Actions

The aircraft made an emergency landing at Mumbai Airport Bay V-10 at 1:30 pm. Once on the ground, the crew handed Abdul over to Air India’s security team, along with his documents. Security officers then escorted him to the Sahar police station, where he was charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including voluntarily causing hurt, endangering life, provocation to breach peace, and criminal intimidation, as well as under the Aircraft Act for assault and intimidation. The flight continued to Bahrain after the situation was resolved.

Chaos on Air India Flight to San Francisco

In another incident involving Air India, passengers on flight AI 183 to San Francisco experienced severe discomfort due to a lack of air-conditioning and prolonged delays. According to a report by NDTV, the flight, initially scheduled to depart on the afternoon of May 30, faced over an eight-hour delay, leading to a total delay of more than 20 hours before departing at 11 am the next day, May 31. During boarding in Delhi, amid a record heatwave with temperatures reaching 52.9 degrees Celsius, the non-functioning air-conditioning caused extreme conditions inside the plane, leading some passengers to faint and forcing the crew to deboard them.
