Air India’s Boeing 787 Fleet Grounded: Pilots’ Body Calls for Investigation
The Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA), representing pilots of Air India, has formally requested the grounding of the airline’s Boeing 787 aircraft. This plea follows two separate technical snags encountered by the planes within a single week.
The association has written to the Union Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, urging an immediate investigation into the recurring issues. The ICPA expressed significant safety concerns for both passengers and crew due to these incidents.
According to the ICPA, the first technical snag occurred on Monday, forcing an Air India flight to return to Delhi. Subsequently, another Boeing 787 aircraft experienced a similar technical problem on Thursday, necessitating its diversion.
The pilots’ body highlighted that these are not isolated incidents and emphasized the potential dangers posed by such repeated malfunctions. The ICPA is seeking assurance from the aviation authorities regarding the airworthiness of the Boeing 787 fleet operated by Air India.
The core of the ICPA’s concern lies in ensuring the safety standards of the aircraft and preventing any compromise that could lead to accidents. They are awaiting a response and action from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
