In a major move to enhance passenger comfort and elevate its global competitiveness, Air India has entered into a strategic partnership with Recaro Aircraft Seating. The collaboration aims to upgrade the seating arrangement in the widebody fleet of Air India. Over the next half-decade, the airline intends to install more than 22,000 Recaro seats, a testament to the seating company’s industry-wide reputation.
Air India’s Forward-Looking Initiative
The massive installation of Recaro seats is part of both linefit and retrofit programs that will span over five to six years. The seats selected for the upgrade are the PL3530 recliner seat for Premium Economy and the CL3710 and latest generation CL3810 for Economy Class. Known for their lightweight design, these seats contribute significantly to reducing the carbon footprint, aligning with Air India’s commitment towards sustainability.
Improved Passenger Experience
The PL3530 recliner seat offers ample stowage and a 7″ recline, while the CL3710 features a six-way adjustable headrest with neck support. The latest generation CL3810, on the other hand, provides similar headrest and lumbar support features along with a spacious seating environment. All seats will be equipped with Inflight Entertainment Systems and will showcase a custom trim and finish, reflecting Air India’s brand identity.
Industry-wide Adoption of Recaro Seats
The partnership with Recaro not only signifies Air India’s commitment to passenger comfort but also the global acceptance of Recaro’s seating models. The widebody retrofit project with Recaro, worth around USD 400 million, includes the installation of more than 22,000 seats in both line fit and retrofit programs. This move sets a benchmark in the aviation industry, emphasizing the significance of passenger experience in today’s competitive landscape.
