Air India partners with SIA Engineering for enhanced maintenance facilities; airline says partnership will boost country’s MRO industry – Airlines/Aviation News

Air India revealed on Saturday its selection of SIA Engineering Company Limited as a strategic partner for enhancing its base maintenance facilities.

Under this collaboration, Air India will collaborate with SIA Engineering Company Limited (SIAEC) on the planning, construction, development, and operationalization of its base maintenance facilities.

These facilities, anticipated to be operational by 2026, will encompass both wide-body and narrow-body hangars, along with associated repair shops, to accommodate the escalating Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) requirements of the Air India Group’s aircraft fleet.

In a statement, Air India emphasised, “The collaboration with SIA Engineering Company will not only help Air India become more self-reliant for the maintenance of its own fleet but it also reiterates our commitment to strengthen India’s aviation infrastructure by boosting the growth of the country’s MRO industry.” Campbell Wilson, Air India’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, underscored the significance of this partnership in bolstering India’s aviation sector.

Previously, Air India had announced plans for state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru, operated by Bangalore International Airport Ltd. These facilities are set to commence with airframe maintenance and will expand to include wide-body and narrow-body aircraft hangars for all checks.
