Domestic air passenger traffic reaches 13.2 million in April, slightly down from March – ET Infra

NEW DELHI: Domestic air passenger traffic in April stood at 13.2 million, up 2.4% year on year. On a month-on-month basis, traffic was marginally down 1.2%, data from the aviation reguator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) showed.

In terms of market share, InterGlobe Aviation Ltd-run IndiGo retained the top spot at 60.6% in April, compared to 60.5% market share in March. Tata Sons-controlled Air India was at a distant second with a market share of 14.2%, up from 13.1% recorded in March, according to the DGCA data.

Full service carrier Vistara stood at third position with a market share of 9.2% in the month, which was a decline from 9.6% recorded in March.

Another Tata Sons-controlled airline, Air India Express’ market share for the month stood at 5.4% compared to 5.8% in the previous month. Akasa Air’s market share remained stagnant at 4.4% in the month, while SpiceJet’s market share stood at 4.7%, down from 5.3% in the previous month.

Both SpiceJet and Vistara recorded the highest passenger load for the month at 90.9%. Vistara’s passenger load in the previous month was at 92.4%, while for SpiceJet it was at 92.7%.

Country’s largest airline IndiGo recorded a load factor of 86.6% in April, up from 84.9% in March. Tata Sons-controlled Air India’s load factor was at 84.3% in April compared to 84.2% in March, while Air India Express’ load factor was at 85.8% in April compared to 85.1% in the previous month.

Akasa Air’s load factor was at 87.9% in the month, down from 88.4% in the previous month.

According to the DGCA data, Akasa Air was the most punctual airline in April, with 89.2% on-time performance, followed by Air India Express at 79.5%, and Vistara at 76.2%, at metro airports of Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.
