Indigo takes vital decision, solution to a major problem faced by women while travelling

NEW DELHI: IndiGo has introduced a new system for women passengers. Indigo has arranged a system for women to know whether the seat next to them is a woman or a man while booking a ticket for the journey. IndiGo said the new system is for the safety and satisfaction of women passengers.

A statement issued by IndiGo informed that the new change is in the wake of some untoward incidents involving women on flights recently. A youth on an Air India flight urinated on an elderly woman sitting next to him in January last year and in July, a professor sexually assaulted a young woman on an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Mumbai.

IndiGo is one of the best budget airlines in India. According to the estimates released by the Directorate General of Civic Aviation in 2023, IndiGo’s domestic market share is 60.5 percent. With this, IndiGo has become one of the major airlines in the country.

Meantime, passengers were evacuated from the IndiGo flight from Delhi to Varanasi due to a bomb threat. The investigation did not reveal anything suspicious, but the investigation is ongoing. The aircraft has been shifted to the airport’s isolation bay for further inspection.

The bomb threat was at the flight scheduled to depart from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 5.35 am yesterday. After receiving a message that a bomb had been placed on board the Indigo flight, the pilot searched and found a tissue paper written in the toilet of the plane with the words bomb explosion at 30 minutes. With only minutes to go, the authorities were informed and the passengers and crew were evacuated through the emergency exit. There were 176 passengers.

Aviation security personnel and a bomb disposal team conducted an inspection. Another flight from Delhi to Varanasi was arranged, IndiGo in a statement released said. A tissue paper with the word bomb written on it was found in the toilet of an Air India flight at Delhi airport in the first week of this month but it turned out to be a fake. A similar incident took place on an Air India flight scheduled to depart for Vadodara on May 15.
