Protesting workers to rejoin duty after Air India Express withdraws terminations

The Union representing a portion of the airline’s employees has declared that all of the crew members who had reported unwell will return to duty right away, marking a significant development in the Air India Express situation that had resulted in the cancellation of nearly 170 flights since Tuesday night.

In addition, according to a statement from the Chief Labour Commissioner’s office, the airline’s management has decided to reinstate 25 crew members who were fired 1for staging demonstrations against the management.

Earlier, a day after roughly 300 employees of the airline called in sick and turned off their phones, causing significant flight disruptions, Air India Express fired dozens of cabin crew members. According to accounts, the management threatened to fire the workers if they didn’t show up for work on Thursday.

As the interruptions escalate into a major issue for the low-cost carrier, which is a division of Air India that is currently owned by the Tata group, a total of 85 flights have been canceled today.

According to accounts, the workers have been demonstrating against the new terms of employment. According to the sources, the crew has complained about unequal treatment of the workforce. They have stated that some employees have been given lesser work duties even if they have passed interviews for more senior roles. The team has also brought attention to a few changes in their benefits package. These changes are occurring along with the airline’s merger with AIX Connect, formerly known as AirAsia India.

Less than a month after pilot protests at Vistara, the full-service carrier of the Tata group, caused disruptions over a number of concerns, including pilot rostering for flights and modifications in their contracts, the Air India Express crisis represents new trouble for the company.
