Air India Express, which is owned by the Tata Group, has recently announced a special offer in which the airline would be providing cheaper tickets to some customers. But on one condition.
Air India Express Offering Cheaper Tickets If You Do Not Have Check-in Baggage
Under its ‘Xpress Lite’ scheme, the Tata group airline is offering lower priced tickets to customers who would rather not check-in luggage.
“Xpress Check-In enables flyers to avoid queues at counters and baggage belts and comes with a complimentary +3 kg cabin baggage allowance in addition to significantly discounted pre-booked prices for +15 kg and +20 kg check-in baggage allowances to ensure the maximum flexibility and convenience for guests booking on Xpress Lite fares,” Air India Express said in a press release on Tuesday.
Travelers using Xpress Lite fares will be able to reserve an extra 3 kg of cabin luggage in advance at no additional cost. Passengers can pre-book additional “check-in baggage” allowances at discounted rates for 15 kg and 20 kg excess baggage slab in case they need to check in luggage later. According to the airline, customers can purchase baggage check-in services at the airline’s airport counters.

Reason Behind Launching The Cheaper Fares
“The launch of Xpress Lite fares heralds what we hope will be a new way to fly in India, extending a proposition already popular amongst flyers across the world, including international airlines flying to and from India,” said Ankur Garg, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India Express, as per ET report.
He added that the scheme underscores the airline’s dedication to continue to push the envelope, introducing best-in-class offerings for Indian flyers, offering frictionless journeys, and reaffirming the brand ethos of ‘Fly As You Are’. Xpress Lite Fares across Air India Express’ domestic and international network have the potential to redefine convenience in air travel while delivering exceptional value.
As per industry sources, Air India Express’ decision could nudge other airlines like IndiGo, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet, to follow suit and introduce similar measures.
Tata Group’s Air India Is The Parent Company Of Air India Express
With 65 aircraft in its fleet, Air India Express is a division of Air India. At the moment, it links 14 international and 31 domestic airports. Air India Express came into existence on 29 April 2005. In 2022, Air India, along with its low-cost carrier Air India Express were taken over by Talace Private Limited, a Tata Sons’ special-purpose entity.
