Air India has introduced new fare categories linked to differential privileges such as baggage allowance and extra charges for cancellations and flights changes.

New Delhi: Tata Group-owned airline Air India said it will slash cabin baggage allowance to 15 kg for lowest economy fare passengers. Previously, the cabin baggage allowance stood at 20 kg for economy passengers. The airline introduced 3 travel categories for the economy class:
- Comfort
- Comfort Plus
- Flex
The new baggage cap applies to Comfort and Comfort Plus categories, while Flex category travellers will now receive 25 kg baggage allowance. Earlier, Air India passengers were allowed 25 kg baggage on all domestic flights.
Will international baggage allowance change?
The international baggage allowance will depend from market to market, the airline said without elaborating on the fare families for that business stream. Business class passengers will receive baggage allowance in the range of 25-35 kg category.
What is the fare difference for domestic flights?
- Domestic flight fare difference between Flex and Comfort Plus is likely to be at Rs 1,000 on the Delhi-Mumbai route.
- Flex passengers will receive up to Rs 9,000 worth of benefits including 10 kg additional baggage and zero fees on changes or cancellations.
Air India inducts Airbus A350 jets
Air India inducted the Airbus A350 jet for the first time on the Delhi-Dubai route in what is expected to be a luxurious and comfortable journey for travellers to the UAE.
The airline inducted the widebody jet as rival IndiGo announced an order for 100 widebody jets as part of the latter’s strategy of deeper penetration into Asia and Europe. The company is eyeing the growth of India as an airline hub, where foreign travellers may change flights for travel to destinations abroad.
Air India and IndiGo have placed respective orders for nearly 1,000 jets combined as part of their expansion strategy as the Indian aviation market’s growth is expected to outpace China. India is the world’s 3rd largest aviation market.
