AirAsia, part of the Capital A airline group, has unveiled a new initiative that redefines travel through a renewed partnership with SEGA. This collaboration introduces racing-themed liveries featuring Sonic the Hedgehog on two of AirAsia’s Airbus A320 aircraft, aiming to merge the worlds of gaming and air travel.
The first of these specially designed aircraft was revealed at the end of 2023 during an event held at AirAsia’s hangar in Sepang, Malaysia. A second aircraft, also featuring the distinctive Sonic the Hedgehog racing designs, is scheduled for unveiling in 2024. These themed aircraft are set to operate across AirAsia’s extensive network, connecting over 130 destinations throughout Southeast Asia.
This renewed alliance builds upon an initial partnership between AirAsia and SEGA that commenced in 2022. The ongoing collaboration is designed to celebrate and promote Sonic the Hedgehog, aligning the character’s core values of speed, adventure, and overcoming challenges with the essence of travel experiences.
Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, stated that the partnership offers a unique opportunity for travelers to experience entertainment from the digital realm in the skies. Jurian van der Niet, Head of Business Development for SEGA, emphasized the excitement of combining Sonic the Hedgehog’s thrill with the adventure of travel, aiming to engage both fans and passengers.
