Emirates and SriLankan Airlines have officially reactivated their codeshare partnership, enhancing connectivity and providing more travel options for passengers flying to and from the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo. The renewed agreement is now in effect, allowing travelers to book flights connecting the two airlines’ networks.
Under this partnership, passengers can travel on a single ticket and benefit from the convenience of having their baggage checked through to their final destination. The collaboration aims to offer travelers increased choice, flexibility, and easier connections.
### Expanded Network and Connectivity
The codeshare agreement significantly expands the reach for customers of both airlines. Emirates passengers will now have access to 15 cities operated by SriLankan Airlines, primarily across India, the Far East, and Australia. This opens up new, convenient travel routes for those flying into Colombo on Emirates.
In return, SriLankan Airlines’ passengers can now connect to Emirates’ global network. The partnership includes codeshares on 19 Emirates-operated destinations, including key locations in the Middle East and Europe such as Bahrain, Male, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Manchester, Birmingham, and Milan. Emirates currently operates two direct daily flights to Colombo, with an additional daily flight routed via Male. SriLankan Airlines operates four weekly flights between Colombo and Dubai.
### Supporting Tourism and Bilateral Ties
Officials from both airlines highlighted the benefits of the renewed partnership. Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer, stated that the agreement will provide customers with more choice and access while strengthening the long-standing relationship between the UAE and Sri Lanka. He emphasized that the collaboration supports the recovery of tourism in Sri Lanka.
Richard Nuttall, Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines, echoed these sentiments, noting the partnership’s importance for providing their customers with seamless connectivity to a wide range of global destinations. He also pointed to the agreement as a vital tool for promoting tourism into Sri Lanka, which is essential for the nation’s economy. The original codeshare partnership between the two airlines first began in 2000, and Emirates has been operating flights to Colombo since 1986.
