AirAsia X has issued a statement to address recent reports circulating about one of its flights landing at an unintended airport in Seoul. The budget long-haul carrier firmly denies any "wrong airport" landing, clarifying that flight D7509 from Kuala Lumpur to Seoul actually landed at Incheon International Airport (ICN) as scheduled, and not Gimpo International Airport (GMP), which is closer to the city center.
This clarification comes amidst media speculation and public discussion regarding the flight’s arrival. While the flight did indeed land at Incheon, a common misconception arose from the possibility of landing at Gimpo. AirAsia X emphasizes that Incheon is their designated arrival airport for all flights to Seoul, and the flight operated as planned.
The airline stressed that passenger safety and operational integrity are paramount. They confirmed that the flight deck crew made the correct decision in accordance with standard operating procedures and the flight plan filed with air traffic control. The decision to land at Incheon was not a deviation from their normal operations.
