Six people were taken to the hospital after an American Airlines flight “experienced an issue upon landing” Saturday at Kahului Airport in Hawaii, The Messenger has confirmed.
American Airlines Flight 271 was traveling from Los Angeles to Maui with 167 customers and 7 crew members when the incident occurred, a spokesperson for the company told The Messenger in an email.
One passenger and five flight attendants were transported to a local hospital and later released, according to the statement.
The airline did not elaborate on the issue or extent of any injuries.
Maui District Airports Manager Marvin Moniz told Maui Now the passengers were taken for a precautionary checkup and that the aircraft and runway were not damaged.
The American Airlines spokesperson said the plane “taxied to the gate under its own power and customers deplaned normally.” The plane was removed from service to be inspected by a maintenance team.
“The safety of our customers and team members is our top priority,” the spokesperson said.
