Though summer has barely begun, American Airlines is already looking ahead to winter.
The carrier today announced a full slate of new flight options for for winter 2024 that will take travelers throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. In total, eight new routes were announced today.
“We are excited to continue growing our network to the region with more flights this winter to the Caribbean and Latin America than any other U.S. carrier ever,” Brian Znotins, American’s senior vice president of Network and Schedule Planning, said in a statement.
The airline’s expanded schedule for the coming winter will offer 11 percent more departures and 10 percent more seats compared to its winter 2023 offerings.
Here’s a closer look at what to expect.
New Destination, New Route
The new offerings from American Airlines include one entirely new destination and seven new routes.
The carrier is the only major U.S. airline serving St. Vincent and the Grenadines and it will become the only U.S. airline flying to La Romana in the Dominican Republic (LRM).
American already serves more than 20 other destinations in the region. Here’s a breakdown of the new service:
- From Charlotte (CLT) to ST. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVD): New Saturday-only service starting December
- From Miami (MIA) to La Romana, Dominican Republic (LRM): New daily service starting December 5
- New York (JFK) to Bridgetown, Barbados (BGI): New daily service starting November 5
- New York (JFK) to St. Lucia (UVF): New Saturday-only service starting December 5
- New York (JFK) to St. Maarten (SXM): New Saturday-only service starting December7
- New York (JFK) to SVD: New Saturday-only service starting December 7
- New York (JFK) to BGI: New Saturday-only service starting November 9
- Philadelphia (PHL) to BGI: New Saturday-only service starting November 9
- PHL to Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR): New Saturday-only service starting December 7
Extended Seasons on Caribbean and Latin American Routes
American has also said it will extended the winter season on many of its routes to the Caribbean and Latin America.
That means more than 98 percent of the airline’s peak schedule to the region will operate for the full winter season.
The carrier is also increasing service on 16 routes starting in December.
- CLT to Antigua (ANU): Increasing to daily service starting Dec. 5
- Chicago (ORD) to Los Cabos, Mexico (SJD): Increasing to twice-daily service between Dec. 19 and Jan. 6, 2025
- ORD to Nassau, Bahamas (NAS): Increasing to daily service starting Dec. 5
- Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Comayagua, Honduras (XPL): Increasing to two weekly flights starting Dec. 5
- DFW to Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (GCM): Increasing to daily service starting Dec. 5
- DFW to Huatulco, Mexico (HUX): Increasing to daily service starting Dec. 5
- DFW to NAS: Increasing to daily service starting Dec. 5
- DFW to Oaxaca, Mexico (OAX): Increasing to twice-daily service starting Nov. 5
- DFW to Zihuatanejo, Mexico (ZIH): Increasing to daily service starting Dec. 5
- Los Angeles (LAX) to SJD: Increasing to twice-daily service between Dec. 19 and Jan. 6, 2025
- MIA to Bonaire (BON): Increasing to daily service starting Dec. 5
- MIA to Cancun, Mexico (CUN): Increasing to six daily flights between Dec. 19 and Jan. 6, 2025
- MIA to Ocho Rios, Jamaica (OCJ): Increasing to daily service starting Dec. 5
- MIA to Tortola, British Virgin Islands (EIS): Increasing to five peak-day flights starting Dec. 7
- Phoenix (PHX) to CUN: Increasing to two daily flights starting Nov. 5
- PHX to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (PVR): Increasing to three daily flights starting Nov. 5
