American Airlines chief commercial officer Vasu Raja to exit the airline in June

American Airlines’ chief commercial officer and executive vice president Vasu Raja will leave the Fort Worth-based carrier in June, the company announced Tuesday.

Raja, who has been chief commercial officer at American since April 2022, has been with the airline since 2004. Over 20 years he held a variety of roles in sales, planning and revenue management. He has also led the airline as chief revenue officer and senior vice president of network strategy, a role in which he was responsible for the carrier’s network and alliances.

Effective immediately, Stephen Johnson, vice chair and chief strategy officer, will take over leading American’s commercial organization and help search for a replacement.

Raja, 47, began his career with Teach for America in 1999 and taught for three years in Baltimore City Public Schools. He received a bachelor’s degree in humanities from the University of Texas at Austin.
