American Airlines flight to CLT emergency lands, picture shows cracked windshield

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Last Friday, An American Airlines flight to Charlotte was forced to make an emergency landing due to a “maintenance issue.”

According to FlightAware, AA Flight 1285 departed from Austin at 2:48 p.m. and was diverted to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport in Alabama, which landed at 5:02 p.m. The trip from AUS to CLT was supposed to be direct.

A passenger on the plane tells us that a damaged windshield was to blame, stating the experience was “traumatic.”

AA sent the following statement regarding the diversion:

“On March 22, American Airlines flight 1285 with service from Austin (AUS) to Charlotte (CLT) diverted to Birmingham (BHM) due to a maintenance issue. The flight landed safely and the aircraft was taken out of service to be inspected by our maintenance team. We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for the inconvenience.”

This isn’t the first time an American Airlines flight has been diverted for this reason. Just weeks ago, CBS News reported that AA Flight 94 had the same issue.
