AAdvantage members, get that trigger finger ready. American Airlines is running an awards sale through January 31st, where members can score one-way flights in the continental U.S. and Canada for as little as 5,000 AAdvantage miles. However, there are a few caveats.
All travel dates must be booked for dates before March 6, 2025, and all flights must be booked at least 14 days in advance. Plus, all mileage rates are subject to availability, so get online quickly to score your deals. The deal can’t be applied to existing reservations, either.
In order to take advantage of the deal, simply head to the American Airlines website and enter your departure airport, making sure to filter results to show routes available to book with miles for one-way flights. For example, members can fly from New York City to Miami for 5,000 miles (and $6 in fees), Miami to Boston for 6,000 miles (and $6 in fees), or Phoenix to Chicago for 7,000 miles (and $12 in fees).
To up the ante, certain credit card holders can gain extra rewards during this promotion. Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholders will earn 2 points per dollar spent on travel (this includes those pesky fees); Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders will earn 3 points per dollar on airfare; American Express Platinum cardholders will earn 5 points per dollar on airfare when booked directly through the airline or American Express Travel; American Express Gold cardholders will earn 3 points per dollar on airfare; and finally Citi Premier cardholders will earn 3 points per dollar on airfare.
