A disgruntled passenger aboard American Airlines flight AA2046 to Dallas voiced frustration on social media over an uncomfortable seating experience. The traveler, named Christine McCarthy on X, was seated in Economy Plus and complained of being wedged against the window by a neighboring passenger, who McCarthy claimed was ‘too large’ for their allotted space.
Despite seeking assistance from both gate agents and customer service representatives, McCarthy claims to have received no help from the airline. She said she paid a fare of $620 for the flight.
“@AmericanAir I’m on flight AA2046 to Dallas sitting in Economy Plus seat next to someone who is too large for the seat and crushing me against the window. I spoke to the gate agent and customer service to be told there is Nothing you can do for me. I paid $620 for my flight,” the post on X read.
American Airlines commented on the post, saying: “We know our passengers come in all shapes and sizes, please check with the flight crew, so they can assist you with any possible seat changes.”
McCarthy replied: “They said there is nothing they can do to make my flight comfortable.”
Earlier this month, a retired judge claimed she experienced racial discrimination during a first-class flight with American Airlines. Before that, in January 2024, an incident aboard an American Airlines flight from Phoenix to Austin made headlines when a passenger allegedly Farted and boasted about it loudly. The disruption prompted the plane to return to the gate, leading to the removal of the passenger.
In 2019, American Airlines topped the list for the highest number of complaints among US airlines for the second year in a row, tallying 2,553 grievances. The reported issues predominantly centered around flight disruptions, oversold flights, reservation and ticket complications, boarding procedures, fare discrepancies, refund disputes, baggage mishandling, among others.
According to a report by the US Public Interest Research Group utilizing Department of Transportation data, consumer complaints lodged against US airlines are poised to surpassed previous records in 2023.
