PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — Over 300 American Airlines customer service positions at Phoenix Sky Harbor are being eliminated, the airline confirmed Monday afternoon.
WARN notices (Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification Act) were sent to 335 employees in Phoenix as the airline announced the creation of a new Customer Success team. An American Airlines spokesperson released the following statement:
The airline added that impacted team members will have the first chance to apply for the new Customer Success team over the next couple of weeks before the posting is opened to other candidates. Employees will also be notified about 800 other roles they could be eligible to apply for. Severance payments will be offered to those who don’t find a new position within the company and others who are eligible to retire.
In addition to Phoenix, 321 American Airlines employees received WARN Notices at the airline’s primary hub, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The airline says affected workers will continue in their current roles until March 30.
American is the largest carrier in terms of passengers served at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Phoenix is one of the airline’s hub cities.
