A woman allegedly snuck past a Nashville airport security checkpoint and onto a Los Angeles-bound American Airlines flight without a boarding pass or identification earlier this month.
The flyer jumped a barrier in an unmanned section of the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint line at Nashville International Airport where passengers are required to provide their ID, according to the agency.
She was, however, screened by security before she boarded the flight.
“TSA is reviewing the circumstances of this matter, but can confirm that the traveler in question was physically screened, along with their carry-on items, without incident at the Nashville International Airport security checkpoint on February 7th before boarding the flight,” the agency told USA TODAY.
“TSA and its airline partners are cooperating with the ongoing law enforcement investigation.”
American Airlines confirmed the fiasco, noting that the derelict behavior was discovered sometime during the nearly five-hour flight.
“On Feb. 7, American Airlines flight 1393 was met by law enforcement upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Safety and security are our highest priorities, and we are assisting law enforcement in the investigation,” a spokesperson told The Post in an email.
The FBI took the woman into custody and questioned her. For now, she has not been charged.
The investigation is ongoing, the agency said.
The incident isn’t the first time in recent months a stowaway managed to land at Los Angeles International Airport without proper identification.
Russian man Sergey Vladimirovich Ochigava, 46, was found guilty last month of sneaking onboard a Scandinavian Airlines flight from Copenhagen by tailgating an unsuspecting passenger through security.
New York’s JFK Airport dealt with a similar issue in December when a British man took advantage of the busy holiday traffic at London’s Heathrow Airport to board a flight without a ticket.
Like Ochigava, the man allegedly tailgated behind several different passengers through the airport’s automatic gates, security checkpoints and passport control areas.
