American Airlines’“flagship” experiences, which come in the form of its “Flagship First” and “Flagship Business” cabins, are exclusive, premium products of the legacy carrier. However, this class of travel isn’t available on every plane or route. The highest service levels of flagship products are typically reserved for higher-profile transcontinental and international routes. Those who have had the pleasure to travel in a ‘flagship’ cabin have expressed the delights not limited to ‘chef-inspired dining,’ priority privileges, and impeccable service.

What are American Airlines’ flagship services?

American Airlines’ flagship servicesare not limited to the cabin experience. The flagship experience starts when you step into the terminal, as the carrier offers “private check-in with access to an expedited security line.” When possible, the US-based airline helps you “speed through security and boarding,” providing more value with its flagship services. Once onboard, the luxurious cabin experience of AA’s flagship products is easy to get comfortable in.

Flagship First and Business passengers typically have access topremium loungessuch as American’s International First Class Lounges and Admirals Clubs in various cities. These lounges also offer a fine dining experience. Flagship services also help passengers depart, connect, or arrive in select cities. In flagship lounges of American Airlines, you will be able tofind additional amenitiessuch as:

  • Personalized service from many servers who roam around to serve travelers.
  • Shower suites, where you can refresh before a long flight or while on a long layover.

The Experience of the Flagship Cabins of American Airlines

In between the experience of the lounge comes the experience of the flagship cabins, where you find services such as::

Expansive, Lie-flat seats

ManyFlagship Suite seats on the A321Tor Boeing 777-300ER operated by American Airlines are similar to high-end offerings of other air carriers. The seats lie flat, allowing passengers to access the aisles. However, there are subtle differences between the seats of Flagship Business and Flagship First.

Flagship Business

  • 1-2-1 seating configuration on widebody-serviced international flights
  • 2-2 configuration for US-domestic transcontinental flights
  • Storage compartments
  • Inflight entertainment screens
  • Large tray tables

Flagship First

  • 1-1 configuration for US-domestic transcontinental flights, offering window and aisle access for all
  • 1-2-1 seating configuration on widebody-serviced international flights
  • Larger seats than in Flagship Business.
  • Each seat can be swiveled into an office chair equipped with a desk

As with other premium airline products, meals come with exclusive wines to cap off the dining experience. American Airlines’ flagship lounges also serve premium liquor and local spirits and feature a premium wine table with a variety of selections. Much like the lie-flat seats, meals offered in Flagship Business and Flagship First are also different.

  • Shinola and D.S. & Durga, leading brands in design and lifestyle, have crafted travel essentials such as basic toiletries and pajamas for the flagship cabins.

Routes to fly American Airlines’ Flagship First within the United States

Most American carriers do not offer their most premium products on domestic services, barring some long-haul flights to the far reaches of the country, such as Hawaii. However, within the continental United States, you will find Flagship First services operated by American Airlineson the following routes:

  • Los Angeles (LAX) – New York (JFK)
  • San Francisco (SFO) – New York (JFK)
  • New York (JFK) – Orange County (SNA)
  • Los Angeles (LAX) – Boston (BOS)
  • Los Angeles (LAX) – Miami (MIA)

How To Access American Airlines’ Flagship Lounge

Here’s all you need to know about American’s premium lounges.

The differences between transcontinental and international flagships are quite subtle. For starters, international flights are carried out in widebody aircraft such as the Boeing 777-300ER, while a majority of the domestic routes above take place on a narrowbody Airbus A321T. Unsurprisingly, international flights also offer more premium amenity kits.

Passengers can use miles to book flagship cabin experiences

There are quite a few ways that passengers can earn and spend miles to book flights in flagship business and first cabins. Here are a few of them:

  • Miles can be earned by flying with American Airlines and its partners.
  • Shopping at AAdvantage eShopping Mall online
  • You can also purchase miles, though you should only do so if they are running a good sale to maximize value.
