British Airways Flight London-Cape Town Declares Emergency

In the last hour, a British Airways flight from London Gatwick declared an emergency on descent into Cape Town.

More information is still being gathered on the cause behind this, but here is what we know so far.

BA2041 – London Gatwick-Cape Town…

British Airways flight BA2041 is a routine scheduled flight between London Gatwick and Cape Town.

The flight, which declared an emergency on descent to destination, was operated by G-YMMC.

As per data from Planespotters.net, G-YMMC is a 24.2 year old Boeing 777-200ER.

It was delivered to British Airways back in February 2000.

Of the 777-200 variant, the UK carrier has 43 of them in the fleet, of which 38 are in active service and five are parked.

Furthermore, average fleet age for the variant at the airline is 24.1 years.

BA2041 departed London Gatwick at 2045 local time last night, and proceeded southbound to Cape Town.

Everything was normal for most of the 11+ hour hop down to CPT.

However, upon descent, the crew onboard broadcasted the 7700 squawk code and proceeded to descend into destination.

British Airways flight BA2041 from London Gatwick landed safely into Cape Town without incident at 0958 local time this morning.

Cause Is Yet To Be Determined…

At this stage, it is unclear what the reason for the emergency is.
