Avios points holders have been warned to swap them to Nectar before 11 March as their value is being slashed. Martin Lewis, the BBC Sounds and ITV Good Morning Britain star, issued the alert on Twitter/X for British Airways customers.
Currently, every 300 Avios you convert gets you 400 Nectar points. These are usually worth £2 to spend at Sainsbury’s, Argos and other Nectar partners. From Monday 11 March, you’ll need 400 Avios to get 400 Nectar points.
You can link any one Nectar account to one British Airways Executive Club account or vice versa. You can link to a friend or family members account but can only ever be linked to one account. Once you’ve linked your accounts, you can convert points between accounts by following the link from either BA.com or the Nectar website.

You can choose to set-up auto-conversion. Every week we will convert your entire balance, in your chosen direction, up to the automatic exchange limit. Balances will be converted in increments of 400 Nectar points or 250 Avios, Nectar explains.
You can’t use Avios in Sainsbury’s stores, unless of course you’ve converted to Nectar points. Responding to the changes, one passenger fumed: “Annoying given I transferred 15000 Avios to Nectar back in Dec and the transfer still hasn’t gone through. They’ll pro”
“I used to work for BA and I would absolutely advise you to never convert your Avios to Nectar,” a second said. “Why do you say this? Interested to know why you think Avios points are handier than Nectar…,” another wrote online.
Mr Lewis wrote on Twitter today: “PS in general its not a good way round to swap, but there are certain use cases (ie you’ve nowt else to use avios for) in which case you may as well do it when the rate is higher.”
