See something, say something?
One passenger has sold a video to the British tabloids in which a naughty couple purportedly engage in a sex act underneath a blanket on a British Airways flight. But if there truly was offense, shouldn’t it have been reported onboard? I tend to think that is the better approach if there really is concern over the tender eyes of children, not that filming it should be discouraged…
Passengers Watch Couple Engage In Lewd Contact Under A Blanket On Britsh Airways, Say Nothing, Then Complain About It After Flight
A couple was seen cozying up on a British Airways flight from London Heathrow (LHR) to Dublin (DUB) with hands underneath the blanket and likely engaging in a game of Jackin’ the Bean Stalk. One passenger named “Farrah” decided to take out her mobile phone and record it.
“I was turning to look at my brother every time I was speaking, and then I saw a lot of sort of vigorous movement in the other seats on the other side. It was very blatant. She was constantly — for 15 to 20 minutes of the flight — just constantly at it with the guy.
“When they got told to put their seat belts on, it was very obvious that he was zipping himself back up and putting everything back in It was just disgusting to be honest.”
Kids were reportedly “running up and down” the aisle:
“You had kids running up and down the aisles, they were between four and eight years old. A couple of them looked like five or six, and then maybe there were a couple that looked like they were eight or nine. At that age, when they’re running past, they are going to look at something like that.”
Funny, I can’t recall a single flight in which four kids were running up and down the aisle…
I’m happy to cover this because people love cliking on salacious headlines and that makes me money, but it seems to me that if there was such great offense caused by this couple’s conduct, perhaps they should have flown first class notified a flight attendant. In fact, British Airways said:
“Our cabin crew colleagues were not alerted to any issue on board. Had they been informed, they would have taken the appropriate steps to address it.”
And that’s the right answer. Such “open and notorious” behavior cannot be condoned, even under a blanket. I mean, come on peeople, at least go the lavatory…
But this all strikes me as much ado about nothing if you’re not willing to speak up in the moment…and that’s probably true for a lot of things we complain about after the fact.
