After the extended bank holiday weekend, it’s straight into another set of big oil numbers as BP attempts to follow Shell’s whopping profits.
BP has yet to hint that, unlike its rival, it is mulling deserting the UK for the US stock market but presumably the same arguments apply so it will be a surprise if the question is not asked of management.
British Airways owner IAG is the other mega-cap reporting and with US rivals reporting a pick-up in transatlantic travel, the tone should be encouraging.
It is also a big week on the UK macro front with UK GDP numbers and a Bank of England interest rate decision.
