Windsor’s home game with British Airways on Tuesday evening was far from plain sailing for the visitors, but the home side suffered their second league defeat on the bounce.
Having swatted aside London Colney last week, the Jacks were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Kensington’s Rising Ballers on Friday before being edged out 2-1 by BA at Holloways Park on Tuesday.
The results leave them just outside the relegation zone in 19th, however, their survival had been all but secured a few games ago. Windsor and BA started the game 48 points and 17 positions apart, with the hosts having seven u18s players in their lineup, however, for much of the game, Windsor gave as good as they got. After a bright opening 10 minutes, mistakes allowed BA in to score. Alfie Inman uncharacteristically passed the ball to Reece Keary in his own area, enabling the BA striker to pass the ball into the net in the 13th minute. The visitors then increased their lead i the 18th minute when Marco Rapso curled an excellent shot beyond Tommy Dymott.
They managed to grab one back before half-time when Sam Healy weaved his way into the box and picked out Alessandro Peliccia (on for the injured Alfie Inman) who took one touch before smashing the ball high into the BA net. A perfect goal that was perfectly timed just before the break, but while the second half ebbed and flowed and included chances for both sides, Windsor couldn’t take any of theirs.
Alessandro Peliccia came close for Windsor again on 47 minutes shooting just wide of the lefthand post.
Tommy Dymott pulled off two remarkable saves in succession to deny BA a third goal – truly magnificent!
BA’s Charlie Rose talked himself into the sinbin on 70 minutes setting up a nerve-jangling finale.
Garry Haylock rang the changes with 15 minutes to play making a quadruple substitution in search of an equaliser but try as they might, the Windsor equaliser proved elusive.
But as BA’s Manager Jason Owens remarked post-game, ‘that was close – too close.’ And it really was. As it turned out other results went in favour of both clubs on the night with BA consolidating second place and Windsor now certain of Step 6 football for another year.
Comedy Moment: Windsor Manager Garry Haylock accidently substituting goal scorer Alessandro Peliccia on 76 minutes (in the batch of 4) having already brought him on as a substitute in the first half!
Windsor travel to Brook House this coming Saturday 27th April for their final away game of the season, kick-off 3pm.
