Delta Airlines have begun direct flights from Shannon Airport to New York JFK, with return tickets for less than $550. The airlines has increased seat capacity on its new service, with the first flight having taken to the skies on Saturday.
The airline has decided to deploy a larger aircraft for the route, meaning there will be around 3,000 seats up for sale every week between Shannon and JFK as the airline increases the capacity by 20 passengers per flight compared to the same route last year. Shannon was the first Irish airport that Delta chose to fly into back in 1986.
The airline will have 33 weekly flights into Ireland this summer and expects to bring thousands more US visitors to Ireland, connecting them from destinations including Boston, Minneapolis and New York-JFK to Dublin.

More than 70 per cent of US visitors to the island of Ireland are holidaymakers who stay longer and spend more than other visitors, tour extensively and are high users of premium products, according to Tourism Ireland.
Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s Head of North America added: “We warmly welcome the relaunch of Delta’s daily nonstop flights from New York to Shannon, boosting visitor numbers from the US.
