GE Aerospace has this week announced an order with Ethiopian Airlines for 16 GE9X engines to power Ethiopian Airlines’ Boeing 777Xs.
This comes off the back of the order made between the African carrier & the American planemaker earlier this week.
Without further ado, let’s get into it…
Commenting on the purchase was Russell Stokes, President and CEO, Commercial Engines and Service, GE Aerospace:
“GE Aerospace is honored to power Ethiopian Airlines’ new Boeing 777X fleet with our latest generation technology GE9X engine”.
“Today’s order represents the next chapter in our successful partnership that has spanned decades and ensures Ethiopian Airlines continues to be at the forefront of commercial aviation.”
Adding to this was Mesfin Tasew Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines:
“Ethiopian Airlines and GE Aerospace have a long partnership and today we are continuing that into the future with this order of GE9X engines to power our Boeing 777X fleet.”
“This will ensure that Ethiopian Airlines fleet remains among the most efficient and modern in the world.”
Such an order for engines comes as no surprise, especially with GE Aerospace being the only supplier of propulsion to the Boeing 777X.
Typically, when an order is announced for this aircraft, a further announcement from the engine manufacturer is made.
It is also similar to other aircraft that has either an exclusive supplier or two or three of them.
Either way, when an aircraft order happens for GE Aerospace with the Boeing 777X, it is more in the orderbook for them.
Overall, this engine order from Ethiopian Airlines will increase the backlog at GE Aerospace for the GE9X.
Looking ahead, all eyes will be on whether anymore orders will be placed for the Boeing 777X.
Because once there is, the engine manufacturer will always stand to benefit from it.
But for now, let’s see how the sales momentum will look like for 2024.
