Dubai-based carrier flydubai has launched daily flights to both Penang and Langkawi in Malaysia, with the flights officially commencing on February 10.
This strategic move opens doors for cultural exchange and economic opportunities, benefitting both travellers and the Southeast Asian region.
This debut, coinciding with the first day of Chinese New Year, saw water cannon salutes and warm welcomes at both Penang International Airport (PEN) and Langkawi International Airport (LGK).
This move expands flydubai’s Southeast Asian network to four destinations across two countries.
“We are thrilled to see our presence grow in Southeast Asia with the addition of Penang and Langkawi,” shared Sudhir Sreedharan, senior vice president of Commercial Operations at flydubai.
The strategic timing of the inaugural flights aligns perfectly with the 15-day festivity, inviting tourists to delve into Penang’s rich cultural landscape and embrace the spirit of Lunar New Year. YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy, expressed his enthusiasm for the new route, hailing it as a “key international route” and appreciating flydubai’s efforts to position Penang as a destination of choice for regional travellers.

Flights to Langkawi operate via a short stop in Penang, offering convenient travel options for exploring both destinations.
