Cape Town passengers stranded as FlySafair cancels flights

Cape Town passengers are upset after the postponement of two FlySafair flights On Wednesday, because they were experiencing ‘technical difficulties’.

In the wake of the recent Germanwings crash in the French Alps, airlines are reluctant to take risks, especially if they are not 100% confident with the selected aircraft.

A statement on the FlySafair website read: “We regret to inform passengers of a delay on flights FA1301 (from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town) and FA1004 (From Cape Town to Johannesburg), due to a technical issue on our aircraft.

“We are bringing in a backup aircraft to complete this schedule, but there will be a delay. Flight FA1301, will depart PE at 16:05 and arrive in Cape Town at 17:35. We are very aware of the big concert this evening and will do everything in our power to ensure that fans are there before the show starts. Flight FA1004 will depart Cape Town at 18:00 and arrive in Johannesburg at 20:10.

“Again, a massive apology from our side regarding these delays. Safety is always our primary concern and we are doing everything in our power to get you to your destinations as quickly as possible.”

The affected flights are:

1 Apr 2015 Flight FA1301 (PLZ-CPT), FA1004 (CPT-JNB)

1 Apr 2015 Flight FA1300 from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth.

With the One Direction concert taking place in Cape Town tonight, some angry fans tweeted the airline to make sure they got there on time.

SaFair responded to the social media furor, saying “it was unavoidable as the plane had to go for maintenance.”
