IAG Cargo recently facilitated the transport of 450 Mexican artefacts from Mexico City to Madrid, Spain. These ancient cultural items were moved for a new exhibition titled "The Aztec World" (El Mundo Azteca), which commenced in October 2021 at the Palacio de Gaviria in Madrid.
The intricate operation involved close collaboration between IAG Cargo, British Airways, and Aeromexico Cargo, utilizing the holds of their aircraft for transport. Due to the delicate and invaluable nature of the artefacts, IAG Cargo’s Constant Climate service was employed. This specialized service ensured that the items were maintained under precise temperature and humidity conditions throughout their journey, safeguarding their preservation.
The Ministry of Culture of Mexico and the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico (INAH) were instrumental in this cultural exchange, working alongside Banco Nacional de México (Banamex), which played a coordinating role in the logistics of the transport. The exhibition aims to showcase Mexico’s rich pre-Hispanic cultural heritage to an international audience. This complex logistical undertaking highlights the critical role of specialized cargo services in enabling global cultural exchanges and preserving historical treasures.
