The market between the mainland US and Puerto Rico is profitable, and it’s a market that JetBlue has chosen to exploit. The airline flies a total of 18 routes from all over the mainland US to three destinations in Puerto Rico, which are San Juan (SJU), Ponce (PSE), and Aguadilla (BQN).

JetBlue competes with Frontier Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines on these direct routes. However, JetBlue is the largest airline in Puerto Rico and has served San Juan for nearly 22 years. The carrier has an average of 35 flights arriving and departing daily from the island, but which are the five busiest routes?
According to data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, the top five routes for April 2024 in terms of seats available are as follows:
JetBlue flies from JFK to BQN twice daily using its Airbus A321 aircraft, each with a capacity of roughly 200 seats. The round-trip fare for economy class can cost up to $500. However, the fares are reduced considerably if you plan to fly during the week and book in advance.

JetBlue flies from FLL to SJU thrice daily and uses the Airbus A320 on this shorter flight. The fares tend to cost around $500 for economy class. However, these prices are for a round-trip within the next four days. Fares will be much cheaper with proper planning.

The airline flies from BOS to SJU thrice daily and utilizes a mixture of A320 and A321 aircraft with 162 and 200 seats, respectively. JetBlue uses its restyled A320 for Flight 1061, while 261 and 561 are operated using the A321. A round trip in economy class can cost up to $500, similar to the fares from other destinations.
The mixed fleet increases the number of seats available daily, making the BOS to SJU route the third busiest, with 17,012 seats.

Orlando is an operating base for JetBlue and the location of the iconic Disney World. There is a lot of movement between Puerto Rico and Florida, and JetBlue is happy to facilitate it, with the airline flying to Puerto Rico from MCO four times daily. Round-trip fares average around $250 for this route.
Of JetBlue’s four daily flights on the MCO to SJU route, three are operated by the Airbus A320 and one by the A321. The high frequency and larger aircraft allow this route to take the number two spot on this list, with 20,656 seats for April.

The busiest route JetBlue operates to SJU originates from JFK. The airline flies to SJU seven times daily. This means that the airline will fly this route 205 times in April. JetBlue uses both the A320 and A321 for this route. Round-trips can be bought with the carrier’s Basic Blue fare for as little as $330.
The 205 flights per month make JFK to SJU the top route by number of seats, with 36,554 over the same period, representing a 76% increase over the number two spot.
