This low-cost airline is launching flights between Edinburgh and New York

New York is absolutely mythic. Its legacy has been immortalised in countless songs, films, books, tv shows, adverts, and basically any other form of media you could think of. It’s a bucket list destination for millions of people across the world, but soon your Big Apple dreams could become a reality for much, much less.

The main issue most of us come up against when trying to visit the States is the cost. A one-way ticket can easily set you back £300-400, and that’s not including any costs included with getting to London from wherever in the country you are. That, however, could be changing. JetBlue, a low-cost airline already operating routes from Heathrow to New York, is expanding to Edinburgh.

That’s right, anyone north of Liverpool will have much better access to the good old US of A from May 22. Flights will depart daily from Edinburgh at 12.30pm, and from JFK airport at 10.15pm local time.

Exact prices will vary depending on the day and demand, but some JetBlue flights from Heathrow to New York go for as little as £280 one way. That fare doesn’t include any hold luggage though, so you may want to splurge a little to make sure you’re not limited to travel size shampoo on your Stateside adventures. 

The airline prides itself on having ‘the most legroom in coach and on-demand entertainment on every seatback, free and fast Fly-Fi broadband internet, complimentary snacks and soft drinks and great customer service.’ Basically, your journey won’t be a nightmare just because it’s cheap. 

Flights will be available to start booking very soon, so keep an eye on JetBlue’s website to be the first to see when they drop. Can you hear that, people of Edinburgh? It’s the sound of liberty edging closer and closer than ever before.
