Nairobi – Kenya Airways (KQ) has issued a customer update regarding flight disruptions caused by heavy rains and poor visibility in Nairobi.

In a statement released by the Corporate Communications team, Kenya Airways informed its customers that due to adverse weather conditions, a number of flights have been diverted, leading to extended delays for departures out of Nairobi.

“Due to the heavy rains and poor visibility in Nairobi we have diverted a number of our flights and as result may have extended delays for some of our departures out of Nairobi,” said KQ.

The airline expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to its customers and assured them that the safety and well-being of both crew and passengers remain their utmost priority.

NTV reported on Facebook that one of the flights from Mombasa to Nairobi had been rerouted back to Mombasa.

“Kenya Airways flight number #KQ613 headed to Nairobi from Mombasa aborts landing at JKIA at last minute; plane rerouted back to Mombasa over poor visibility due to bad weather” reported NTV on Facebook.

Services paralysed at JKIA over leaking roof

The ongoing rains have once again exposed infrastructural vulnerabilities at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, as services were paralysed due to a leaking roof.

On Friday, April 26, travellers to various destinations were stranded as the airport’s Terminal 1C was forced to stop operations. The flash floods reported in some sections of the facility compounded the situation.

Why there are frequent roof leakages at JKIA

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported on a statement in which Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) attributed the leakage to the ongoing drainage repairs at JKIA that were ordered by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

According to KAA, the heavy rainfall witnessed in Nairobi has adversely impacted the temporal drainage infrastructure, resulting in roof leakage.

KAA assured Kenyans that the contractor had been instructed to complete the repair work within the three months initially agreed upon.
