Nairobi—Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced that passengers may experience extended delays for flights departing from Nairobi due to the heavy rains and traffic congestion affecting the city.

The adverse weather conditions have led to a significant slowdown in road traffic, impacting both passengers trying to reach the airport and airline staff.

In some parts of the city and the country, roads have been destroyed or rendered impassable by the floods.

“Due to the heavy rains and heavy traffic on the roads in Nairobi affecting our passengers and staff, we may have extended delays for some of our departures out of Nairobi. If your flight is affected, you will receive an additional message by email or via text,” said Kenya Airways in a notice to its customers.

Kenya Airways encouraged its customers to stay updated by contacting their support through the provided phone numbers or via email.

Kenya Airways diverts flights from Nairobi

The delay in flights comes after heavy rains in Nairobi necessitated the diversion of flights from Nairobi.

In a statement released by the corporate communications team, Kenya Airways informed its customers that due to adverse weather conditions, a number of flights were diverted, leading to extended delays for departures out of Nairobi.

“Due to the heavy rains and poor visibility in Nairobi we have diverted a number of our flights and as result may have extended delays for some of our departures out of Nairobi,” said KQ.

The airline, serving various local and international passengers from the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa, expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to its customers and assured them that the safety and well-being of both crew and passengers remain their utmost priority.
