Kenya Airways and VirginAtlantic, members of the SkyTeam Airline Alliance, have unveiled a strategic codeshare partnership aimed at enhancing global connectivity and travel convenience.

VirginAtlantic will expand its reach by placing its code on Kenya Airways’ London flights, providing passengers with seamless access to Kenya Airways’ vast network of destinations across Africa and beyond.

In return, Kenya Airways will reciprocate by placing its code on VirginAtlantic flights to picturesque Caribbean destinations like the Bahamas, Barbados, and Grenada, creating thrilling travel prospects for customers of both airlines.

CEOs express enthusiasm over code-sharing deal

After finalising the agreement, Julius Thairu, Kenya Airways’ Chief Commercial and Customer Officer, conveyed his excitement about the partnership.

“We are thrilled to kickstart this transformative partnership with VirginAtlantic. Through the synergy of our respective strengths and networks, our goal is to enhance the travel experience for our esteemed customers, providing them with expanded choices, enhanced convenience, and seamless connectivity to vital destinations worldwide,” said Thairu.

Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at VirginAtlantic, echoed similar sentiments.

Kenya Airways ranked second most efficient airline

In a recent global on-time performance review of airlines and airports, Kenya Airways emerged as Africa’s second-most efficient airline.

The report, conducted by aviation analytics company Cirium, highlighted Kenya Airways’ commendable achievement of a 71.86% on-time arrival rate out of 41,905 completed flights in 2023.

Cirium CEO Jeremy Bowen emphasised that the data, collected from over 600 sources, provides industry stakeholders with valuable third-party insights into their operational performance.
