Video: Passengers, crew in tears as KQ pilot retires after 4 decades in the sky

Passengers and crew who interacted with long-serving Kenya Airways Captain Harpal Sokhi shed tears when he announced his retirement.

After his flight, the Boeing 787 pilot took the mic and formally announced that he was retiring from a job he had helped for years.

“My name is Sokhi, on behalf of Kenya Airways and the entire crew its my pleasure to welcome you on board our flight. Now leaving Nairobi; this is a special moment for me; it will be my last flight,” he said.

“My wife, family and friends are on board for this special occasion. I thank you all for the support and wish you all a very pleasant flight,” he added.

Captain Irene Mutungi on last flight with Sokhi

Pilot Irene Mutungi reminded the captain of the time they were first paired together and wished him all the best.

“It’s a blessing that we were able to do our last flight together as well,” she said.

First Officer Alvin Kathembe said: “Thank you so much, Captain Sokhi, for being a light that many of us are trying to emulate. “

A touching moment came when Sokhi’s son Prit Pal said that he is the most hardworking man he knows.

“We have been together on the Dreamliner since it was introduced to the fleet,” he said.

KQ Pilot retires after Over 29,800 hours in sky

In another story, Kenya Airways’ long-serving Captain Constant Oteri left the airline with over 29,800 hours in the sky.

Captain Oteri will hand over the responsibility to her daughter, who became a first officer in 2019.
