Korean Air Celebrates 45 Years of New York Services

On March 29th, Korean Air marked a significant milestone: 45 years of serving passengers traveling between New York and South Korea.

To commemorate this occasion, the airline hosted a special event at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

KE082 Seoul-New York Celebration

A lucky passenger flying on flight KE082 bound for Seoul Incheon received a delightful surprise! Jihyeon Kim, the 45th person to check in, was presented with a round-trip Prestige (business) class ticket between Seoul and New York.

“What a delightful surprise this is for me,” said Kim, a lifelong Korean Air flyer. “I’m excited to continue flying with them!”

To add to the celebratory spirit, all passengers on board KE082 received a commemorative tote bag.

Designed in collaboration with the Korean Association of New York Artists (KANA), a non-profit organization fostering cultural exchange between Korea and the U.S., the bags showcased the unique talents of young Korean-American artists.

From Inauguration on March 29 1979

Since its inaugural flight KE008 on March 29, 1979, Korean Air has played a vital role in bridging the gap between Korea and the United States.

The initial three weekly flights quickly grew in response to passenger demand, expanding to ten flights per week by 1986.

Today, Korean Air demonstrates its unwavering commitment to this crucial route by operating 14 round-trip flights weekly. This service not only facilitates travel but also strengthens economic ties between the two nations.

In 2023, the New York route became Korean Air’s second busiest in the U.S. This followed Los Angeles, with a total of 417,920 passengers choosing Korean Air for their journeys.

The airline deploys wide-body aircraft like the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8i on this route.

Increased Flight Frequencies on Major Routes

In response to growing demand, Korean recently announced increase flight frequencies on popular routes. This will see service increases in Europe, Southeast Asia and North America. 

Flight increases for the summer season have now commenced from 31 March.

In North America, Korean Air will increase services on the Seoul Incheon-Dallas route. This is set to rise from four flights per week to daily flights.

As a gateway to the south-central United States, the daily flights will facilitate enhanced connectivity for passengers traveling to and from the dynamic city.
