SOUTH KOREA. Korean Air Duty Free (Sky Shop) has stepped up its online marketing via a collaboration with local travel tech start-up DFPR (Duty Free Price Research).
The partnership is designed to maximise sales as outbound tourism from the Repulic continues its strong post-pandemic rebound.
As reported, Duty Free Price Research launched on 9 January, offering a pioneering duty free price comparison service simply called Duty Free Price (DFP).
DFPR claims the platform is travel retail’s fastest-growing mobile app, displaying 140,000 real-time price lists since its opening this year.
From today (18 May) Korean Air Duty Free joins DFP (dutyfree-price.com) to enhance visibility for its discount promotions through appealing to the mobile app’s loyal users.
Korean Air has run one of the world’s most successful duty-free operations for decades, consistently leading the inflight sales rankings.
This year, passenger volumes at Incheon International Airport, the country’s main gateway, have already reached the pre-pandemic level of 6 million per month.
In 2019, the airport’s daily passenger numbers averaged around 200,000, generated from about 1,000 flights.
According to flight analysts OAG, Incheon International Airport jumped to eighth position from 11th in terms of connectivity among all global airports in 2023. Korean Air served 22% of the gateway’s total passengers.
DFPR CEO Lee Chang-Won told The Moodie Davitt Report, “We are very excited to welcome Korean Air Duty Free (Sky Shop) as our first airline partner.
“I am confident that our valuable app users who are repeating travel and enjoying shopping, together with the inflight retail leader will mutually benefit from our historic collaboration”.
DFP hinted that more premium brands and airline retailers will soon join the pioneering mobile app to leverage the targeted marketing opportunities it offers during a critical period of travel recovery.
