The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has sanctioned Qatar Airways with a financial penalty for multiple violations of passenger rights. The decision was announced on Tuesday by the NCAA, following a series of complaints received from Nigerian passengers.
The complaints specifically detailed instances of unlawful denial of boarding, significant flight delays, and outright cancellations by Qatar Airways. Furthermore, the airline reportedly failed to provide the necessary compensation to affected passengers, a requirement clearly outlined in Part 19 of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (NCARs) 2023.
Captain Chris Najomo, the acting Director-General of the NCAA, confirmed that a Notice of Sanction has been formally issued to Qatar Airways. This action highlights the NCAA’s commitment to safeguarding and enforcing the rights of air travelers within Nigeria. The authority is responsible for ensuring that all airlines operating in Nigerian airspace comply with both national and international aviation standards.
The NCAA emphasized its dedication to passenger protection and made it clear that non-compliance with the provisions of NCARs 2023 will not be tolerated. The regulatory body also issued a stern warning to other airlines, advising them to strictly adhere to all regulations to avoid similar punitive measures.
