The Nepali Embassy in Doha has expressed serious concern and initiated an investigation into incidents where Qatar Airways offloaded Nepali transit passengers at Hamad International Airport. These passengers, traveling from Kathmandu, possessed valid onward tickets and visas for their final destinations in European countries and the USA, but were denied further travel.
Passengers reported being informed by Qatar Airways about “new rules” concerning passport and visa validity, or the necessity of a Qatari visa, despite their status as transit travelers. Some individuals experienced being offloaded on multiple occasions, causing significant disruption to their journeys.
The issue recently came to the embassy’s attention, prompting Nepal’s Ambassador to Qatar to directly address the matter with the Qatar Airways Country Manager on Tuesday. The embassy is actively engaged with both the airline and Qatari authorities to seek an immediate resolution and clarification on the policies leading to these arbitrary travel denials for Nepali citizens.
