Summary

  • Qatar Airways has specific guidelines for checked baggage, including weight and size restrictions. Maximum dimensions vary based on the destination.
  • Carry-on baggage allowances differ based on the class of ticket. Economy class passengers are allowed one piece of luggage, while first-class and business class passengers can carry more.
  • Qatar Airways Privilege Club members and oneworld frequent flyers can enjoy extra baggage allowances, depending on their tier. Higher tiers receive more extra baggage allowances.

Traveling the world is one of life’s most rewarding experiences, but the lead-up to boarding the plane and taking off isn’t as smooth as it can be. A significant pain point is figuring out how much baggage allowance your ticket gets, how to get more, and other baggage policies.

If you’re planning to fly Qatar Airways and want answers to questions about luggage allowances, you’ve come to the right place.

Baggage guidelines

Here are some other Qatar Airways baggage guidelines you should know before packing for your trip.

Checked baggage guidelines

  • No piece of checked baggage can exceed 32 kg (70 lbs).
  • When flying to/from the continents of Africa or the Americas, the maximum dimension per bag should not be more than 158 cm (62.2 in). The same regulation applies to flights originating from Dammam.
  • When flying from Dublin, checked baggage cannot exceed 240 cm (94.5 in) in length.
  • When flying to/from other destinations, the maximum dimension per bag cannot exceed 300 cm (118.1 in)

Carry-on baggage guidelines

  • First-class and business class passengers can carry two pieces of baggage onboard, totaling a maximum weight of 15 kg (33 lbs)
  • Economy class passengers can carry one piece of luggage not exceeding 7 kg (15 lbs).
  • The maximum dimensions for each piece of carry-on baggage are 50 x 37 x 25 cm (20 x 15 x 10 in).
  • Laptops and laptop bags are part of your carry-on baggage and should fit within the given allowances.
  • For tickets issued in Brazil, economy class passengers can carry one piece of baggage not exceeding 10 kg (22 lbs) on flights to or from the country.

Where you sit and what you get

The baggage allowance depends on the tier of ticket you purchase. The higher the class, the more baggage you can carry. So, let’s break down the allowances from the back to the front of the aircraft.

Economy class

Customers have four options when purchasing an economy ticket, and the table below shows exactly what allowances you get with each.

Economy Lite Economy Classic Economy Convenience Economy Comfort
Flights to/from All destinations 20 kg (44 lbs) 25 kg (55 lbs) 30 (66 lbs) 35 (77 lbs)
Flights to/from Africa and America One piece (23 kg / 50 lbs each) Two pieces (23 kg / 50 lbs each)
Carry-on One piece (7 kg /15 lbs)

Like economy class, business class customers can choose between four tiers, but unlike economy class, the baggage allowances across the tiers are the same.

Business Lite Business Classic Business Comfort Business Elite
Flights to/from All destinations 40 kg (88 lbs)
Flights to/from Africa and America Two pieces (32 kg / 70 lbs each)
Carry-on Two pieces (15 kg/ 33 lbs total)

Passengers flying first class have only one tier to worry about: First Elite. The baggage allowances for this ticket are as follows.

First Elite
Flights to/from All destinations 50 kg (110 lbs)
Flights to/from Africa and America Two Pieces (32 kg / 70 lbs each)
Carry-on Two Pieces (15 kg / 33 lbs each)

Privilege club baggage allowances

Finally, if you’re a Qatar Airways Privilege Club member or oneworld frequent flyer, you avail yourself of extra baggage allowances, depending on your tier and route.

There are four tiers, but only three give you extra baggage.

Privilege Club Tier / oneworld Tier Extra Baggage
Burgundy No extra baggage
Silver / oneworld Ruby 15 kg (33 lbs) or one piece extra
Gold / oneworld Sapphire 20 kg (44 lbs) or one piece extra
Platinum / Emerald 25 kg (55 lbs) or two pieces extra
