Qatar Airways GCEO Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer Outlines His Vision for Qatar Airways 2.0

Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways Group, Engr. Badr Al-Meer, has unveiled several major developments that align with his vision for Qatar Airways 2.0, which aims to invigorate the global airline and its unique group of companies. His success plan is based on innovation, and as the airline prepares to introduce first-class cabins on some of its fleets, new product announcements will be a feature in the months to come.

“This is a new era,” said Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer to CNBC in an exclusive interview, his first since taking his GCEO position in November 2023. He detailed how Qatar Airways is currently creating a high-yielding first-class concept for its cabins in the extensive interview, which also touched on the group’s overall positive outlook. “Our goal was to create something new by combining the experience flying private and commercial aircraft. We are only finalising the colours, but we are seventy to eighty percent ready. We are hoping to make the announcement soon,” he stated.

“We decided in the last several months to launch a first-class cabin based on the demand from certain sectors, which indicates there would be a considerable demand for first class. I feel nobody can develop a first-class cabin better than us.”

The premium Qsuite of Qatar Airways is undergoing a redesign, and the new model is scheduled to make its debut at the Farnborough International Airshow, according to Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. When it was introduced in 2017, Qatar Airways’ renowned Qsuite Business Class challenged industry norms and continues to be a milestone in the aviation sector.

After being appointed Group CEO in November 2023, Engr. Badr concentrated on implementing cutting-edge initiatives that would help the airline’s global 60,000 employees as well as its passengers. He emphasised in his inaugural speech to the staff the importance of a culture of empowerment and trust for leadership. There have been steps implemented to improve employee happiness and relax the rules regarding dress codes for employees.

As the airline continues to launch exciting new routes in growth markets, including China and India, he also underlined how digital innovation is driving organizational efficiency and strengthening Qatar’s position as a gateway to the world.

Qatar Airways is set to introduce multiple new destinations this summer, bringing its total number of destinations to over 170. The upcoming list of new locations includes Tashkent, Venice, Lisbon, and Hamburg. Several summer seasonal routes, including those to Adana, Antalya, Bodrum, Marrakesh, Mykonos, Sarajevo, and Trabzon, will also be resumed by Qatar Airways.

The GCC region’s competitive landscape, according to the GCEO, is also contributing to higher standards for customer experience. His message is that the pressure is on potential rivals and that he welcomes any challenge. He is confident that Qatar Airways will maintain its market-leading position and will, in the future, continue to outshine the competition.
