Qatar Airways has been ranked as the best airline in the world for 2024 by AirlineRatings, known for its annual rankings of the safest airlines globally. The Airline Excellence Awards consider factors such as safety, product rating, fleet age, profitability, incidents, passenger reviews, innovation, and aircraft orders.
These rankings are determined by a panel of judges with over 100 combined years of industry expertise. Qatar Airways, based in Doha, reclaimed the top rank in 2024 after previously holding it in 2021 and 2022.
Qatar Airways excelled in many categories, particularly in passenger feedback, which consistently praised its service and high standards. The airline not only received the Airline Excellence Award for 2024 but also secured the Best Business Class award for the fifth consecutive year. Skytrax also named Qatar Airways’ business class the best in the world in 2023 for the tenth time.
The airline’s QSuite, available on newer A350s and select Boeing 777s, is a standout feature. It offers doors that close, ample storage, and the option to combine four suites into a group room, setting a high standard for business class. Along with the luxurious suites, passengers enjoy fine dining, generous amenity kits, complementary pajamas, and world-class in-flight entertainment (IFE).

In economy class, passengers benefit from 31 – 32 of legroom and an 18-seat width, one of the widest in the industry. Its Oryx One entertainment system provides 4,000 hours of on-demand content, and the cabin crew delivers exceptional hospitality.
Air New Zealand, last year’s winner, achieved fourth position in 2024. The airline experienced stronger-than-expected competition and decreased its profit outlook, which impacted its position. While the upcoming introduction of its lie-flat economic ‘Skynest’ product will likely assist it regain the top spot as the best airline in the world.

Korean Air moved up to second place from fourth last year, due to record 2023 revenues and a $13 billion order for Airbus A350s. Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific climbed from ninth to third place, showing significant recovery post-pandemic. Airlines from previous years were excluded from the top 25 list. JetBlue, which ranked 18th last year, did not make the list for 2024. But American Airlines climbed to 25th place after not appearing at all in 2023.
