Qatari state-owned airline Qatar Airways is set to be the official airline partner and title sponsor of this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship motor racing series opener in that country.
Qatar will host the 12th FIA World Endurance Championship’s (WEC) season opener from February 29 to March 2, 2024, at the Lusail International Circuit just outside the city of Lusail. The race will last nearly 10 hours.
Qatar Airways chief commercial officer, Thierry Antinori, has said: “Staging this event allows us to connect with the discerning motorsport audience and fanbase and welcome them to our home and hub, Qatar. Our brand will be displayed trackside, and we look forward to engaging with fans at the circuit and with motorsport audiences online.”
FIA World Endurance Championship chief executive Frédéric Lequien added: “We are delighted to welcome Qatar Airways onboard as our title sponsor for the inaugural Qatar Airways Qatar 1812 Km.”
The World Endurance Championship’s twelfth season will take place across eight countries over four continents, with participation from manufacturers such as Alpine, Aston Martin, BMW, Cadillac, Corvette, Ferrari, Ford, Isotta Fraschini, Lamborghini, Lexus, and McLaren.
Valentino Rossi, the seven-time MotoGP World Champion is set to compete for Team WRT in LMGT3, while Jenson Button is also set to compete, having been crowned the Formula One World Champion in 2009.

The 2024 WEC season also includes the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France on June 15 and 16.
Last December, Qatar Airways announced a six-year global partnership with Asian soccer’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) governing body.
The airline will serve as the official global partner of the AFC covering all AFC international competitions through 2029.
December also saw LÉquipe, the French free-to-air digital terrestrial channel, extend its rights deal for WEC action.
