The GCEO, Qatar Airways, Engr. Badr Al-Meer, has disclosed several significant new initiatives aligning with his vision for Qatar Airways 2.0, aimed at revitalising the global airline and its distinctive array of businesses. Innovation stands as a pivotal principle guiding his roadmap for success, with upcoming product launches set to be a hallmark of the coming months as the airline prepares to introduce first-class cabins on select aircraft.
In an exclusive interview, marking his first since assuming the role of GCEO in November 2023, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer conveyed to CNBC, “This marks the dawn of a new era.”
During the comprehensive discussion, which touched upon the promising outlook for the group as a whole, Al-Meer detailed Qatar Airways’ endeavor to craft a high-yielding first-class experience for its passengers.
“We sought to merge the best elements of commercial and private jet travel to create something entirely novel. We are currently seventy to eighty percent complete and are finalising details such as color schemes. We anticipate making an announcement soon,” he remarked.
“Cognizant of demand from specific segments, particularly for first-class accommodations, we have opted in recent months to introduce a dedicated first-class cabin. I firmly believe that no one can deliver a first-class experience better than us.”
Al-Meer further disclosed that Qatar Airways is revamping its premium Qsuite, with a new iteration slated to debut at the Farnborough International Airshow in July.
The Qsuite Business Class, recognized with industry accolades since its launch in 2017, has consistently set a benchmark in the aviation sector.
Assuming the role of GCEO in November 2023, Al-Meer immediately embarked on introducing innovative initiatives benefiting both passengers and the airline’s extensive workforce of 60,000 employees worldwide. Emphasising the significance of fostering a culture of trust and empowerment, his inaugural message to employees underscored these values. Initiatives such as relaxing dress code regulations for employees and enhancing overall job satisfaction have been implemented.
Al-Meer also highlighted the pivotal role of digital innovation in driving organisational efficiencies as the airline continues to expand its network with exciting new routes in burgeoning markets such as China and India, further solidifying Qatar’s stature as a global gateway.
Come summer, Qatar Airways is set to launch several new destinations, increasing the total count to over 170. Among the forthcoming additions are Venice, Lisbon, Hamburg, and Tashkent. Additionally, the airline will resume several seasonal routes for the summer, including Adana, Antalya, Bodrum, Marrakesh, Mykonos, Sarajevo, and Trabzon.
Reflecting on the competitive landscape within the GCC aviation sector, Al-Meer emphasised that heightened competition is raising the bar for customer experience. He conveyed his belief that Qatar Airways will maintain its market-leading position and continue to surpass its rivals in the future.
