Riyadh Air, a new national airline based in Saudi Arabia, is actively preparing for its inaugural commercial flight, expected to take place soon. Since its launch earlier this year, the airline has commenced the initial phase of its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) certification with the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), a crucial step towards operational readiness.
The airline’s strategic objective is to establish itself as a world-class carrier, significantly enhancing Saudi Arabia’s global connectivity. Under the leadership of CEO Tony Douglas, Riyadh Air aims to connect the Kingdom to over 100 destinations worldwide by 2030. This ambitious goal aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, intending to boost the nation’s economy, foster growth in air travel, tourism, and trade, and introduce new levels of digital integration and customer-centricity to the aviation industry.
In its preparatory phase, Riyadh Air has already received its “RX” designator code from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The airline also unveiled its distinctive livery at the Paris Air Show and formed a principal partnership with Atletico Madrid. Operating a fleet of new generation aircraft, Riyadh Air anticipates making a substantial economic impact, including the creation of a significant number of jobs directly and indirectly, and a notable contribution to Saudi Arabia’s non-oil GDP growth.
