Passengers onboard a United Airlines flight between Los Angeles and Hong Kong were abruptly diverted to San Francisco shortly after takeoff after reports of smoke were identified inside the cabin.
United Airlines flight UA801 departed from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Friday, April 19th at 10:40, 20 minutes after its scheduled departure time. The Boeing 787a Dreamliner took westerly over the Pacific Ocean, climbing to its cruising altitude of around 34,000 feet. While the exact time the pilot decided to divert remains unclear, the flight descended into the Golden Gate City around 45 minutes after departure before touching down at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) approximately 90 minutes after takeoff.
