A United Airlines Boeing 777 returned to the gate after a generator malfunctioned Wednesday as it was preparing to depart from San Francisco International Airport, leading to a 2½-hour delay for the Chicago-bound flight.
The Federal Aviation Administration initially reported that a fire ignited in the aircraft’s auxiliary power unit while the plane was being pushed back from the gate. However, United Airlines clarified there was no fire.
