A United Airlines Boeing 757, operating as United Flight 2139, struck a parked United Airlines Boeing 787 at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at Terminal 1 when the wingtip of Flight 2139, which was pushing back from its gate, made contact with the tail section of the stationary aircraft.
There were no injuries reported among the 174 passengers and 6 crew members aboard Flight 2139. Passengers were subsequently deplaned following the collision and were accommodated on an alternative flight to their intended destination of Denver. Both planes sustained damage as a result of the impact.
United Airlines is currently investigating the incident in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has also been notified regarding the event.
